The Elk River Watershed Map is an online geographic information system for the Elk River Watershed Improvement Association (ERWIA). The ERWIA promotes public education and environmental improvement projects concerning the Elk River and its tributaries in Southwest Missouri, Eastern Oklahoma, and Northwestern Arkansas. The Elk River and its tributaries are outstanding recreational clear water streams that begin in rural farm pastures and converge through the forest covered hills of the Western Ozarks. While most of the watershed is dominated by farms and forest, portions of the land are being transformed by explosive urban growth such as that surrounding the international headquarters of Wal-Mart in Bentonville, AR, and the popular retirement community of Bella Vista, AR. Concentrated animal feed operations associated with the area's poultry industry are also impacting the watershed. The Elk River Watershed Map is provided as an aid for public education and discussion of issues concerning water quality protection and environmental improvement in the Elk River Watershed. The online GIS features 12-digit (HUC12) USGS Hydrologic Unit Code watershed boundaries and 1:24000 scale USGS National Hydrography Dataset stream centerlines that conform to the map's shaded relief topography. Water quality data and other environmental data will be added to the map as development of the GIS continues.
See a 3D model of the Mahram Bilquis Temple archeological site in Marib, Yemen. The model is being developed through state-of-the-art photo modeling techniques using photos and survey data acquired by numerous expeditions to the site by I-Maps partner Bill Isenberger. The Mahram Bilquis (pronounced Mah-ram Bill-kees) is associated with the Queen of Sheba, who's reign coincided with the reign of King Solomon during the 10th century BC. The first major excavation of the site was undertaken in the early 1950's by the late archeologist Wendell Phillips, who later became George Lucas's and Steven Spielberg's real-life inspiration for movie character Indiana Jones. The Mahram Bilquis Temple, which is also known as the "Queen of Sheba's Temple of the Moon", almost became the Phillips expedition's "Temple of Doom" when they had to flee for their lives after natives accused them of seeking sacred treasures. Excavation of the site resumed in the 1990's under the direction of Wendell Phillips' sister, Merilyn Phillips Hodgson, who is the president of the American Foundation for the Study of Man (see Quest). Look for updates in the future as Bill adds more detail from his future expeditions to this world class archeological site.
The Whitetail Map Guide is an interactive map that features white-tailed deer populations by county throughout the United States. It's based on I-Map's Outdoor Adventure Guide Map that includes a 3D topographic background and points for numerous topographic and manmade features. The Whitetail Map Guide is a great reference tool for all deer hunters, deer managers, or anyone interested in white-tailed deer. The 1999 White-tailed Deer Density Map layer is provided by The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) and was compiled in cooperation with state fish and wildlife agencies, wildlife biologists, and GIS professionals. The QDMA is a non-profit wildlife conservation organization dedicated to ensuring a high-quality and sustainable future for white-tailed deer and white-tailed deer hunting. The QDMA's mission is to promote sustainable, high quality white-tailed deer populations, wildlife habitats, and ethical hunting experiences through education, research, and management in partnership with hunters, landowners, natural resource professionals, and the public.
The Jacks Fork River Watershed GIS is an online geographic information system designed for water quality management of the Jacks Fork River National Scenic Riverway in Southern Missouri. The GIS is a product of an EPA water quality project to map sinkholes and perform dye traces to the major springs on the river. The GIS includes color aerial photography and a 10 foot resolution digital elevation model with topographic contours.  Sinkhole reports with detailed maps and photographs of the sinkholes are linked to sinkhole point locations on the map. The project demonstrates the ability to link detailed environmental field data to an online GIS that may be shared by project members and promoted for public education. See the GIS Controls explanation page so you will understand how to use the GIS.  Click the Online GIS link on the report page (link above) to view the online interactive map.
See a preliminary version of the Greene County, MO Property Value Assessment Map. This project is under development for the Springfield, MO News-Leader news website.
The map features aerial photography with color overlays showing the range of appraised values, the amount of tax change over the past year, and the change in assessed values over the past eight years. The transparency of the overlays may be adjusted using a slider control. Property information for individual parcels may be displayed by selecting the parcels from the map or from an interactive list of property owner names.
