Hotel Price Categories for Lexington, Kentucky

The hotels on the Rate Table and the Interactive Map are grouped into color coded price categories based on their average room rates.  The average rate for each hotel is calculated from the average of it's high and low room rates observed over a period of one year.

See the difference between the current posted rates and average rates to identify hotels with below average rates.  Negative values indicate below average rates.  Click the "Low Dif" and "High Dif" column headers to sort the values and see the lowest differences. 

Click the average rate values (Ave Rate column) to see rate trend graphs for each hotel.  See how the current rates compare to the rate history for each hotel.  Consider that large differences in the high rates may indicate limited availability of the more expensive rooms, and low rates may simply indicate an opening in low rate rooms.  Rates may also vary with seasons and change for special events.

Hotel Locator Map

The Hotel Locator Map will open in the space occupied by the introduction box at the top of this page.  Click the static map or click the "Launch Interactive Map" button to open the map.

The Hotel Locator Map shows the location of hotels in Lexington, Kentucky and adjacent areas.  It allows you to zoom in, zoom out, center, and select hotels for identification.  The map includes an interactive list of hotels that works with the map.  As you zoom in on your area of interest, the list of hotels on the sidebar will adjust to match the hotels you see on the map.  This feature allows you to focus the list of hotels for a specific area of Lexington, KY.

The current rates and the annual average rates are presented for comparison.  The current rates are presented in bold text and the average rates are displayed in small text  ( low | high )  above the current rates.  Compare the current high and low rates to their average values to identify below average rates.

The links under each hotel provide access to the hotel information and rate pages.  The rate links will generate rate pages for the number of occupants and dates that you set in the Reservation Dates selection box.  Hotel rooms may be booked through the rate pages.

Hotel Rate Analysis and Classification Details

The March 24, 2008 rate analysis for Lexington, Kentucky hotels is based on the average rates of 69 hotels within Lexington and adjacent towns forming the Lexington, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area.  The average rate for each hotel is calculated from the average of it's high and low room rates observed over a period of one year.  The rates range between the following values:

Lowest Average Room Rate:  $43 - Richmond Knights Inn
Highest Average Room Rate:  $212 - Marriott Griffin Gate Resort

The graph on the right shows the typical shape of a room rate distribution for a metropolitan area.  The colored areas depict the price breaks used to classify the hotels.  Rates greater than two standard deviations above the mean for all values are considered high end outliners and are removed from the price break calculations.

For the March 24, 2008 analysis, the resulting mean room rate for Lexington, KY MSA hotels is $87 and the standard deviation is $30.

Hotels with average rates greater than one standard deviation above the mean are categorized as deluxe.  One standard deviation above the mean is $116, so Lexington hotels with an average rate higher than $116 are classified as deluxe hotels ( magenta ) on the map.

Hotels with average rates falling in the lower half of the range below the mean are categorized as budget.  The rate halfway between the low rate and the mean rate is $65, so Lexington hotels with an average rate lower than $65 are classified as budget hotels (green ) on the map.

Everything in between is categorized as moderate priced hotels, so Lexington hotels with average room rates greater the $65 and less that $116 are classified as moderate priced hotels ( cyan ) on the map.
