Hotel Price Categories for Savannah, Georgia

The hotels on the Rate Table and the Interactive Map are grouped into color coded price categories based on their average room rates.  The average rate for each hotel is calculated from the average of it's high and low room rates observed over a period of one year.

Hotel Locator Map

The Hotel Locator Map will open in the space occupied by the introduction box at the top of this page.  Click the static map or click the "Launch Interactive Map" button to open the map.

The Hotel Locator Map shows the location of hotels in Savannah, Georgia and adjacent areas.  It allows you to zoom in, zoom out, center, and select hotels for identification.  The map includes an interactive list of hotels that works with the map.  As you zoom in on your area of interest, the list of hotels on the sidebar will adjust to match the hotels you see on the map.  This feature allows you to focus the list of hotels for a specific area of Savannah, GA.

The links under each hotel provide access to the hotel information and rate pages.  The rate links will generate rate pages for the number of occupants and dates that you set in the Reservation Dates selection box.  Hotel rooms may be booked through the rate pages.

Hotel Rate Analysis and Classification Details

The March 24, 2008 rate analysis for Savannah, Georgia hotels is based on the average rates of 105 hotels within Savannah and adjacent towns forming the Savannah, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area.  The average rate for each hotel is calculated from the average of it's high and low room rates observed over a period of one year.  The rates range between the following values:

Lowest Average Room Rate:  $0 - Baymont Inn & Suites Garden City - Savannah
Highest Average Room Rate:  $394 - Luxury Living Savannah

The graph on the right shows the typical shape of a room rate distribution for a metropolitan area.  The colored areas depict the price breaks used to classify the hotels.  Rates greater than two standard deviations above the mean for all values are considered high end outliners and are removed from the price break calculations.

For the March 24, 2008 analysis, the resulting mean room rate for Savannah, GA MSA hotels is $117 and the standard deviation is $53.

Hotels with average rates greater than one standard deviation above the mean are categorized as deluxe.  One standard deviation above the mean is $169, so Savannah hotels with an average rate higher than $169 are classified as deluxe hotels ( magenta ) on the map.

Hotels with average rates falling in the lower half of the range below the mean are categorized as budget.  The rate halfway between the low rate and the mean rate is $58, so Savannah hotels with an average rate lower than $58 are classified as budget hotels (green ) on the map.
