Hotel Locator Map Help
Launching The Map
Click the "Launch Interactive Map" button to open the map.
The Hotel Locator Map will open in the space occupied by the introduction box at the top of the Springfield, MO hotels page.
A new link to this help page will appear beneath the map when it is opened.
Map Function Overview
The map shows hotel location markers that are colored and numbered to match an interactive list of hotels.
The colors indicate three price range categories calculated for the hotels in Springfield, MO.
As you zoom and pan around the map, the list of hotels will adjust to match the hotels you see on the map.
Focus the map on a specific area of Springfield to shorten the hotel list and reduce analysis time.
Use the links on the hotel list to get information about the hotels and make reservations.
If you want to check for discounted rates, set your reservation dates in the "Reservation Dates" form and then hit the "Update Rates" button at the top of the hotel list.
The program will update the rates on the list with real time rates retrieved for the specified dates.
Compare the annual average rates above the posted rates to identify below average rates.
Map Controls
The click mode controls set the action that will occur when you click on the map.
The controls allow you to zoom in, zoom out, center, and select hotels from the map.
When the click mode is set to select, selected hotel markers will be labeled and the hotel list will automatically scroll to the selected hotel.
The map interface will automatically resize to fit any screen area from 800 x 600 up to 1600 x 1200, but it must be set to at least 1024 x 768 to access the sort and zoom level controls. If your screen resolution is set to 800 x 600, consider increasing it to at least 1024 x 768 to utilize all of the controls.
For screen areas that are 1024 x 768 or greater, the map's zoom level controls and sort buttons will be displayed. You may use the sort buttons to set your sort preference. The hotels may be sorted by name, or by high price from high to low, or by low price from low to high. When sorting the hotels by high or low rates, the hotels will remain grouped in the three price categories and each category will be sorted separately.
The zoom level control allows you to quickly change zoom levels by clicking the level you want. The arrow buttons may be used to zoom in or out one step at a time. The left arrow zooms out and the right arrow zooms in.
The hotels are colored and grouped according the price range categories calculated for Springfield, MO.
Price categories may be turned on or off by clicking the category check boxes on the control panel.
Turn off price ranges you are not interested in to reduce your analysis time.
Hotel List
The hotel list presents the hotels in three rate categories.
The rate categories may be turned on or off with the rate category check boxes below the list.
The hotels may also be sorted with the sort control buttons that are available for screens settings of 1024 x 768 and higher.
For each hotel listed, the current rates and the annual average rates are presented for comparison. The current rates are presented in bold text and the average rates are displayed in small text ( low | high ) above the current rates. The average rate numbers are linked to rate history pages that show graphs of the running average rates.
The links under each hotel provide access to hotel information and reservation pages.
Rooms may be booked directly through the reservation pages.
Rate Update & Analysis Procedure
1) After you have focused the map on your area of interest, set your reservation dates with the "Reservation Dates" selection box on the left side of the map.
2) Set the dates for your stay, the number of adults, and the number of children, then click the "Update Rates" button at the top of the hotel list to begin the hotel rate search.
3) Let the search routine step through each hotel and update the rates according to values you entered in the "Reservation Dates" selection box.
4) Compare the high and low rates to the average values for each hotel to identify below average rates.
5) For further investigation, click on the average rate values to access the rate analysis page for each hotel.
Hotel Reservations
The hotel reservation links will generate pages showing all available room rates for the number of occupants and dates that you set in the "Reservation Dates" selection box.
